Emma’s Court Community Garden is a shared neighborhood space in Philadelphia that brings people together through gardening, care, and community involvement. More than just a place to grow plants, it serves as a gathering space where the landscape reflects the time, effort, and pride of the people who maintain it. The garden shows how a small green space can support both everyday use and a strong sense of community.
This project involved measuring, drafting, and rendering a map of the garden as a form of community service. The map was created to clearly show the layout of the space and document it in a thoughtful, easy-to-understand way. The work focused on translating the garden into a visual record that could support both its current use and its value as an important community space.
I’m personally part of the garden and have my own little plot there, which made this project feel even more meaningful. The gardening practice has taught me resilience, commitment, care, and patience. It has also shown me that growth takes time, consistency, and attention, both in the garden and in life.
